Frequently Asked Questions
A: For a low-cost, well-organized, high quality soccer program right here in our own town.
Q: How old does my child have to be to participate?
A: The child must be entering kindergarten (fall soccer) or already in kindergarten (spring soccer). Click on "Age Groupings" to the left for more information.
Q: What is the difference between the spring and fall soccer programs?
A: Spring soccer is a travel program, where players try out for positions on a Mashpee team. Spring soccer games are played either at home or in other towns against other travel soccer programs in the area. Fall soccer is a recreational program, meaning anyone can play. All fall soccer games are held in Mashpee and teams play against other Mashpee teams in their age group.
A: Go to the "Info & Registration Forms" page and select either the "Spring" or "Fall" option. Remember that sign-ups are held well ahead of time because of the time involved assigning teams and coaches, ordering uniforms, scheduling games, etc.
Q: Why are soccer rosters always so late?
Because of the influx of so many parents who want their children to play and wait until the last moment to sign up. Notices are sent home from the Mashpee schools in the fall (for spring travel soccer) and in the spring for fall soccer. It works this way every season (though kids have a tendency to lose papers) so make a note to check this website if you don't receive any info.
Q: How do I know who will be coaching my child?
A. Each coach is given a roster and asked to call the players. If you haven't heard from a coach by a week before the season starts, check the website for team rosters and contact information.
Q: What do I bring to practices or games?
A. Usual equipment includes shin guards, soccer cleats and a water bottle, but double-check with your coach at the first practice.
A: All coaches complete a CORI form (and their backgrounds checked) before they may work with children.
A: In towns such as Taunton, Fall River and even Martha's Vineyard.
A: Ask your child's coach to contact a member of the Board of Directors for a replacement. There will be a charge to you for a replacement.
Q: We're moving in the middle of the season. Can I get my fees refunded?
A: Fees are not refundable because they are used to pay referees, maintain the fields and cover other ongoing operating expenses.
Q: My child is interested in becoming a referee. What's involved and how do I start the process?
A. Classes are held around Massachusetts (usually a couple are held in Hyannis), generally starting in late spring and again in late fall. For more information, go to www.massref.net or e-mail gustav4@comcast.net.
Q: Why does MYSO a small-sided team format such as 3v3?
A: Because we want our younger players to touch and play the gall more often; i.e., the fewer players on the field, the more possible times a player will contact in contact with the ball. It also allows for more individual teaching time with the coach.
Q: How do I sponsor a team?
A: Go to the "Sponsor a Team" link at the left side of this page.
A: E-mail our webmaster at watts33@comcast.net or contact any of the Board of Directors (see the link on the left side of this page).
